Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between exercise physiology and physiotherapy?
There is a lot of crossover between the two, and in our company, both are specialists. We have both to cater for any client preference and request. Traditionally, physiotherapy would focus on the more acute/early rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries and then refer to EP for aerobic fitness, strength and return to higher level activity training. Physiotherapy do manual therapy and casting while EP does not. EPs are specialists in exercise prescription and Physiotherapy is like a general practitioner in exercise prescription.
EP’s focus on the pathophysiology of a disease and use exercise to treat it, like a medicine. The same way a certain medication has a required dosage for efficacy, EP’s will research what the correct type and dose response of exercise is required for each particular disease.
Do I need a referral to see an Exercise Physiologist?
Do I need a referral to see an Physiotherapist?
No, you can call and make a booking without a referral. We are covered through NDIS, Workers Compensation, Medicare and most Private Health Providers. You will need a referral from your GP or specialist if you want Medicare rebate or to be seen for a Workers Compensation claim.
